Det första jag märkte var att de torkade tebladen var väldigt vackra. De är långa och smala med gyllengula stråk insprängda i bladen. Det gyllene kommer från den höga halten av teknoppar i teet. Doften av de torkade bladen är fantastisk. Sötaktig med toner av kryddpeppar, mjölkchoklad, russin och mandel. Den påminner mig om ett kryddskafferi.Jag bryggde teet med kokande vatten i kanna i ungefär 5 minuter. Teet blir mörkt rödbrunt och får mig att förstå att kineserna kallar sitt svarta te för rött te. Smaken är mjuk utan bitterhet men samtidigt fyllig och intensiv. Det här är inget milt, subtilt te. Det är däremot ett mångbottnat te med en underliggande, svag sötma som slår in ganska tidigt i smaken, en jordig och lätt metallisk ton som slår in en stund senare, och med stråk av rökighet som hos en äkta Lapsang. Jag får associationer till whiskey, även om den sista eftersmaken innehåller en lätt syrlig ton som nästan påminner om rödvin. Eftersmaken är lång och tillfredsställande.
Bortsett från Darjeeling är det här nästan så långt från English Breakfast Blend på påse som man kan komma. Jag kan verkligen rekommendera China Yunnan Golden Temple till alla som uppskattar ett mustigt svart te.
